When the boiler exceeds its safe operating temperature threshold, the appliance immediately halts the active cycle to prevent damage to internal components and potential safety hazards. This protective shutdown is triggered by the control board when the boiler temperature reading surpasses the configured BOT (Boiler Over Temperature) parameter value.

The most frequent root cause of this fault is insufficient water supply to the boiler. Without adequate water, the heating element rapidly raises the temperature of whatever residual liquid or scale remains, causing the sensor to register a runaway temperature spike. Limestone accumulation is another primary contributor: mineral deposits coat the heating element and boiler walls, insulating them from the water and causing localized overheating even when water is present. In some cases, the BOT parameter itself may be configured too low, causing the system to trip at temperatures that would otherwise be within a safe operating range.

Diagnostic approach depends on the model variant. For Digit-type models, the recommended starting point is allowing the boiler to cool completely, then running a full cleaning cycle using rinse and descale with two C25 tabs. For Touch-type models, the built-in Boiler Maintenance procedure should be performed instead. If descaling does not resolve the fault and the error returns, further investigation into water supply continuity, boiler sensor function, and BOT parameter settings is warranted.
