Error code E21 on an Electrolux range indicates a communication failure between the filter board and the User Interface Board (UIB). These two boards exchange data signals continuously during operation, and when that communication link breaks down or becomes corrupted, the control system flags E21 to alert the technician that the signal path is compromised. The filter board conditions electrical noise out of the power supply before it reaches sensitive control electronics, and it also serves as a communication node between the UIB and other system components.

The diagnostic process begins at the wiring harness connecting UIB connector P8 to filter board connector X14. This harness is the physical communication pathway between the two boards, and it is the most common failure point. Technicians should inspect the harness for visible damage such as pinched wires, burn marks, or chafed insulation. Both connectors should be checked for bent or corroded pins, loose seating, and any signs of moisture intrusion that could cause intermittent or complete signal loss.

If the harness and connectors check out correctly and all connections are secure, the fault likely lies within one of the two boards themselves. Either the filter board or the UIB may have a failed communication circuit internally. In that case, component-level replacement is typically required. Because the UIB is the primary control interface and the filter board handles power conditioning and signal routing, both should be tested systematically before ordering replacement parts.
