GE Dryer Error Code 26
Out of Balance (OOB) Ended Final Spin
Out of Balance (OOB) Ended Final Spin - Washer could not redistribute load to eliminate OOB condition.
First step from the service manual
Manually rebalance the load, check basket for damage, and run a Drain & Spin cycle. If washer spins properly, talk with consumer about loading.

What 26 means on a GE dryer
Error code 26 on a GE washer (which may display on a paired GE dryer in a laundry center or stacked unit configuration) indicates that the machine reached the end of the final spin cycle while still detecting an out-of-balance (OOB) condition. During normal operation, the control board monitors drum rotation and load distribution throughout the spin cycle. When an imbalance is detected, the machine is designed to stop, redistribute the load by tumbling at low speed, and then attempt the spin again. Error code 26 means the washer exhausted all of its redistribution attempts without successfully balancing the load, and the final spin was terminated early or completed at a reduced speed.
The root cause is almost always related to how laundry is loaded into the drum. Large, heavy items like comforters, rugs, or towels tend to clump together and create a lopsided load that the machine cannot correct on its own. A single heavy item spinning alone is a particularly common trigger. However, mechanical issues can also contribute, including a worn or damaged drum basket that wobbles during rotation, suspension components that have weakened over time, or bearing wear that allows excessive drum movement.
The first diagnostic step is to open the door, manually redistribute or remove some items from the load, and run a Drain and Spin cycle to test the machine. If the washer completes that cycle without triggering the error again, the problem is load-related and can be resolved through better loading habits. If the error returns even with a properly balanced load, a physical inspection of the basket, drum bearings, and suspension system is warranted.

Common causes of 26
- 01
Unbalanced or improperly loaded laundry
Wiring / connectionA clumped load, particularly one containing large heavy items like comforters, jeans, or bath mats, is the most frequent cause of this error. Redistributing items evenly around the drum by hand and rerunning the spin cycle usually resolves it.
- 02
Single large item spinning alone
Wiring / connectionWashing one bulky item by itself, such as a single pillow or a heavy jacket, creates an inherently unbalanced load the machine cannot correct. Adding a few similarly sized items helps distribute the weight.
- 03
Damaged or warped drum basket
Part replacementA dented, cracked, or otherwise damaged drum basket can cause the load to shift unevenly during rotation or create wobble even with a properly balanced load. Inspect the interior of the basket visually and by hand for deformation or sharp edges.
- 04
Worn suspension components
Part replacementSuspension rods, springs, or shock absorbers that have weakened over time allow the drum to move excessively during spin, making it harder for the control board to detect and correct balance. This typically presents as louder-than-normal banging during spin cycles.
- 05
Worn drum bearings
Part replacementBearing wear allows the drum to wobble or shift during high-speed rotation, which the machine interprets as an out-of-balance condition even when the load itself is evenly distributed. A grinding or rumbling noise during spin is a common indicator.
