GE Dryer Error Code 8
Pressure Sensor Loss
Pressure Sensor Loss - Too great of a difference in the pressure sensor reading and the expected pressure sensor reading for the amount of water the control calculated it has put in. Assumes pressure leak, clog in pressure hose/system, or significant water leaking out.
First step from the service manual
Check to make sure house water supply valves are turned on. Check water valve operation. Check pressure tube for pinches where it goes through top cover grommet.

What 8 means on a GE dryer
Error code 8 on a GE dryer indicates a Pressure Sensor Loss fault. This occurs when the control board detects a significant discrepancy between the actual pressure sensor reading and the expected reading based on the calculated volume of water the control has dispensed. The pressure sensing system is used to monitor water levels inside the drum or reservoir during steam or moisture-related cycles. When the measured pressure falls too far outside the predicted range, the control interprets this as a system failure and triggers the error.
The fault points to one of three underlying conditions: a pressure leak in the sensing system, a blockage or pinch in the pressure hose or related tubing, or water physically escaping the system, meaning the water that was delivered is not accumulating as expected. A kinked or pinched pressure tube, particularly at the point where it passes through the top cover grommet, is a very common physical cause. If the tube is deformed at that transition point, pressure readings will be unreliable or absent.
Diagnosis should begin by confirming that the household water supply valves feeding the dryer are fully open. Inadequate water supply pressure or flow can prevent the system from filling correctly, causing the sensor reading to lag behind the control's expectations. After confirming water supply, the water inlet valve itself should be tested for proper operation. Then the pressure tube routing should be physically inspected for kinks, pinches, or disconnections, especially at the grommet penetration in the top cover.

Common causes of 8
- 01
Closed or restricted house water supply valve
Wiring / connectionIf the water supply valve feeding the dryer is partially or fully closed, insufficient water enters the system and the pressure sensor reading will not match the control's expectations. Verify both hot and cold supply valves are fully open.
- 02
Pinched or kinked pressure tube at top cover grommet
Wiring / connectionThe pressure hose commonly becomes pinched where it passes through the grommet in the top cover. A deformed tube at this point restricts pressure transmission, causing inaccurate sensor readings. Inspect and straighten or reposition the tube at this location.
- 03
Clogged pressure hose or pressure system
Wiring / connectionMineral deposits, debris, or moisture buildup can clog the pressure tube or sensing port, blocking accurate pressure readings from reaching the sensor. Disconnect the tube and inspect for obstructions.
- 04
Faulty water inlet valve
Part replacementIf the water inlet valve is not opening fully or is failing intermittently, the dryer will not receive the expected volume of water. Testing the valve for proper solenoid resistance and flow is required to rule this out.
- 05
Water leaking from internal components
Part replacementIf water is escaping the system through a cracked hose, loose connection, or damaged internal component, the pressure sensor will not reflect the amount of water the control calculated it dispensed. Inspect all internal water lines and connections for signs of moisture or dripping.
