GE Washer Error Code 1A

The 1A error code on a GE washer indicates a Pressure Sensor Dropout. It means the control board has lost its signal from the water level pressure sensor, which can be caused by a pinched or kinked pressure tube, water inside the tube, a disconnected tube, or a failed pressure sensor. The washer stops normal operation when this error appears to prevent water level control problems.

It is not recommended to run the washer while the 1A error is active. Without a functioning pressure sensor signal, the control board cannot accurately monitor water levels in the tub, which could result in overfilling or improper cycle execution. Resolve the underlying cause before resuming normal use.

If the fix only requires clearing a pinched or blocked pressure tube, there may be no parts cost at all, just the time to inspect and correct the tube. If the pressure sensor has failed and needs replacement, parts and labor costs typically range from $75 to $200 depending on the specific model and whether a technician is called. Replacing a damaged pressure tube is generally a lower-cost repair than replacing the sensor.

Start by locating the pressure tube where it passes through the grommet in the top cover and check for any pinching or kinking at that point. Next, disconnect the tube at both ends and check for water inside it, clearing any moisture before reconnecting. If the tube is clear and properly connected but the error returns, the pressure sensor itself may need to be replaced.

A power reset may temporarily clear the 1A code, but it will return if the underlying issue is not fixed. Because the error is triggered by a hardware problem such as a pinched tube, water in the tube, or a failed sensor, the root cause must be addressed for the code to stay cleared.
