Error code 49 on a GE washer means the inverter board has detected and reported a fault condition. The inverter board controls motor speed and torque by converting power into variable-frequency output. It is not recommended to continue using the washer while error code 49 is active. The inverter board has shut down motor operation as a protective measure, and attempting to run a cycle could stress other components.
