Error code 61 on a GE washer indicates a problem with the door lock assembly or the wiring connected to it. The control board has detected an abnormal signal from the door lock circuit, which prevents the washer from operating safely. The issue can be caused by a wiring fault, a failed lock assembly, or poor electrical connections between the lock and the control board.

You should not attempt to bypass or continue using the washer while error code 61 is active. The door lock is a safety component that prevents the drum from spinning while the door is unsecured. Running the machine with a faulty door lock could pose a safety risk and may cause additional damage to the appliance.

A reset may temporarily clear error code 61 from the display, but the code will return if the underlying problem with the door lock assembly or wiring is not resolved.
