The DC code on a GE washer stands for an IMC (Inverter Machine Control) fault. The IMC is the board that controls the drive motor, and this code means it has detected an abnormal condition and stopped operation. It can result from a power disruption, an internal board failure, a motor problem, or a wiring issue. The first step is always to reset the machine by unplugging it for 30 seconds.

It is not recommended to continue running the washer while the DC code is active. The IMC halts machine operation intentionally to prevent damage to the motor or other components. Running the machine in a faulted state risks escalating the repair or creating a secondary failure. Address the fault before resuming normal laundry use.

Start with the reset procedure: unplug for 30 seconds, then attempt a Drain and Spin cycle. If the code clears temporarily but returns under load, the motor or its wiring is a likely contributor. If the code returns immediately after reset regardless of cycle, the IMC board itself is more suspect. Inspecting the wiring harness connectors at both the IMC and the motor for looseness or corrosion is a good intermediate step before committing to a parts replacement.

Unplugging the washer for 30 seconds performs a hard reset on the IMC and can clear the DC code if the fault was caused by a transient power issue or a temporary communication error. After restoring power, run a Drain and Spin cycle to see if the code returns. If it does, the underlying cause is likely a hardware failure that requires further diagnosis beyond a simple reset.
