E39 indicates a dispenser timeout fault. The control board did not detect any position switch signals from the dispenser motor within 45 seconds of attempting to operate it. This means the dispenser system could not confirm that its selector mechanism moved to the correct position. The washer stops the dispenser operation and displays the code to alert you to the problem.

A reset may temporarily clear the code, but it will return as soon as the washer attempts to use the dispenser again if the underlying problem is not fixed. The fault is triggered by a real hardware condition, so clearing the error without addressing the motor, switches, or wiring will not resolve the issue.

If the fix is simply cleaning out detergent buildup from the dispenser housing, the cost can be minimal. Replacing a dispenser motor or dispenser assembly typically costs between $50 and $150 for parts, plus labor if you use a technician.
