What E43 means on a GE washer
The E43 error code on a GE washer indicates a DC fault within the inverter control board, classified as a non-recoverable inverter failure. The inverter board is responsible for converting DC power into the variable-frequency AC power used to drive the brushless DC motor that spins the wash drum. When the inverter detects an internal DC fault it cannot correct through normal recovery routines, it locks out and throws the E43 code to prevent further damage to the motor or electrical system.
A non-recoverable fault means the inverter's internal diagnostics have determined that the failure is not a transient event such as a brief voltage spike or temporary overload. Instead, the fault represents a hard failure within the inverter circuitry itself. This can involve failed switching transistors (IGBTs), shorted internal capacitors, failed gate driver circuits, or a corrupted control signal path. Because the inverter cannot self-correct, the washer will not attempt to restart the motor until the board is replaced.
The primary and essentially only corrective action for E43 is replacement of the inverter control board. There are no adjustments or reset sequences that resolve a non-recoverable DC fault of this type. If the board has failed due to a recurring power quality issue, such as voltage surges or unstable supply voltage, that underlying cause should be addressed before installing the replacement board to prevent repeat failures.

Common causes of E43
- 01
Failed inverter control board
Part replacementInternal components on the inverter board such as switching transistors or capacitors have failed, causing a hard DC fault. This is the most common and direct cause of E43, and board replacement is required.
- 02
Voltage surge or power event
Part replacementA sudden voltage spike from the power supply can overwhelm and permanently damage the inverter's internal circuitry, triggering a non-recoverable fault. Check for signs of burn marks or component damage on the board.
- 03
Overheating of the inverter board
Part replacementSustained overheating caused by poor ventilation or heavy usage cycles can degrade internal inverter components over time until they fail outright. Inspect the board mounting area for obstructions or heat discoloration.
- 04
Motor winding short feeding back to inverter
Part replacementA shorted winding in the drive motor can send abnormal current back into the inverter, damaging its DC circuit. If the replacement inverter board also fails quickly, inspect the motor for winding resistance faults.
