GE Washer Error Code F/02

F/02 on a GE washer means the machine took longer than 8 minutes to complete a drain cycle. The control board first shuts off the water valves, then displays a Sud warning after 4 minutes, and finally shows F/02 after another 4 minutes of failed draining. The code points to a problem in the drain system, such as a blocked hose, a clogged pump filter, excessive suds, or a failing drain pump.

It is not recommended to continue running wash cycles while F/02 is active. The washer already has standing water inside that it could not drain, and running additional cycles can worsen a blockage, cause water to overflow, or put extra strain on the drain pump motor. Resolve the drainage issue before using the machine again.

If the fix is simply clearing a kinked hose or cleaning the pump filter, there is no parts cost involved. If the drain pump needs to be replaced, parts alone typically range from $30 to $100 depending on the model, with professional labor adding $75 to $175 or more. Diagnosing the root cause before ordering parts helps avoid unnecessary expenses.

Start by inspecting the drain hose for kinks or blockages and straighten or clear it as needed. Next, clean out the drain pump filter or coin trap, which commonly collects lint and small objects. If you have been using non-HE detergent or excess soap, switch to the correct HE formula and use the recommended amount. If the hose and filter are both clear and the error persists, the drain pump itself may need to be tested and potentially replaced.

A reset may temporarily clear the F/02 code from the display, but the error will return if the underlying drainage problem is not fixed. To reset, unplug the washer for about one minute and then plug it back in. However, this should only be done after you have addressed the drain hose, filter, and detergent issues, otherwise the code will reappear during the next drain cycle.
