GE Washer Error Code F/21

F/21 on a GE washer means there is a communication error between the touchpad/LED assembly and the Central Control Unit (CCU). The two components are unable to send or receive data from each other, which prevents the washer from operating normally. The fault can originate from the wiring harness, the touchpad assembly, or in rare cases, the CCU itself.

A reset may temporarily clear the code, but if the underlying communication fault is still present, the error will return. To reset, unplug the washer for one to two minutes and then restore power. If F/21 comes back immediately or during the next cycle, further diagnosis of the wiring and components is necessary.

Repair costs depend on which component has failed. If the fix is a reseated or replaced wiring harness, parts are typically inexpensive, often in the range of $10 to $40. A replacement touchpad/LED assembly generally costs between $50 and $150 for the part. If the CCU needs replacement, parts alone can range from $100 to $300 or more, with additional labor costs if a technician is involved.

Some causes of F/21 are DIY-friendly, such as reseating a loose wiring harness connector or cleaning corroded pins. Start by testing the touchpad response as described in the initial diagnostic step, then inspect the harness connections between the touchpad and the CCU. If the touchpad or CCU has failed internally, replacing those components requires more comfort with appliance disassembly.

It is not recommended to continue using the washer while F/21 is active. Because the touchpad and CCU cannot communicate reliably, the machine may not execute the selected cycle correctly or may behave unpredictably. Resolving the fault before operating the washer helps prevent potential damage to laundry or the appliance.
