GE Washer Error Code FF

FF on a GE washer signals a water fill failure. The machine either could not complete filling within 60 minutes, or detected no change in water level within the first 4 minutes of the fill cycle. The error points to a problem with the water inlet valve, pressure sensor switch, or the main control board. When FF is active, only the POWER and START/PAUSE buttons respond.

Start by confirming that both hot and cold water supply valves are fully open and that inlet hoses are not kinked. Next, inspect the screens inside the water inlet valve connections for sediment clogs. If supply is confirmed good, check the pressure sensor hose for disconnections or blockages, and test the inlet valve solenoids for continuity. If all components test correctly, the control board may need evaluation.

Repair costs depend on which component is at fault. A replacement water inlet valve typically costs between $25 and $80 for the part, while a pressure sensor switch generally runs between $15 and $50. Control board replacement is the most expensive path, with parts ranging from $100 to $300 or more depending on the model. Adding a technician's labor for diagnosis and installation will increase the total.

Pressing the POWER or START/PAUSE button will clear the active display and reset the machine. However, if the underlying issue with water supply, the inlet valve, or the pressure sensor is not resolved, the FF code will return once the washer attempts another fill cycle. A reset is a starting point for diagnosis, not a permanent fix.

The washer will not operate a wash cycle while FF is active, so there is no immediate safety risk from continuing to use it in that state. However, leaving the issue unresolved can cause the motor and pump components to cycle unnecessarily during repeated failed fill attempts. It is best to diagnose and correct the cause before running additional loads.
