GE Washer Error Code IE

IE stands for a water inlet error. It means the washer did not reach the required water level, indicated by a pressure sensor frequency of 24.6 kHz, within 8 minutes of beginning to fill, or could not reach the preset cycle water level within 25 minutes. The washer stops the cycle to prevent running with insufficient water.

The washer halts the cycle automatically when IE is triggered, so it will not operate normally while the fault is active. It is safe to investigate the water supply connections, but do not attempt to force the machine to run if the water level is not being reached, as running the motor without adequate water can cause additional damage.

Resetting the washer may clear the displayed code temporarily, but the error will return at the next fill cycle if the underlying cause has not been corrected. A reset is a useful first step to confirm whether the error is intermittent, for example due to a brief pressure drop in the household water supply, but it is not a fix on its own.

In many cases, yes. Start by confirming that both water supply valves behind the washer are fully open and that neither supply hose is kinked. You can also remove the supply hoses and clean the small screens inside the inlet valve ports. If those steps do not resolve the error, testing for 120 VAC at the inlet valve connector requires a multimeter and some comfort working around live voltage, so a technician may be advisable at that point.

If the fix is simply opening a supply valve or cleaning the inlet screens, the repair costs nothing beyond your time.
