GE Washer Error Code LONG DRAIN

LONG DRAIN means the washer's drain cycle ran for more than 6 minutes without successfully removing all the water from the tub. The control board stops the wash cycle when this threshold is exceeded to prevent damage. The fault points to a restriction or failure somewhere in the drain system, including the pump, hose, or pressure switch.

You should not ignore the LONG DRAIN error and continue running cycles without investigation. If water is not draining properly, running additional cycles can leave standing water in the drum, strain the pump motor, and potentially lead to water overflow or mold buildup. Resolve the drain issue before resuming normal use.

Start by inspecting the drain hose for kinks or bends, especially behind the machine where it can get pinched against the wall. Next, check that the hose is not inserted too far into the standpipe and that the standpipe itself drains freely. Then clean the pump filter if your model has an accessible one. If the hose and filter are clear, the next step is testing the drain pump and pressure switch contacts for proper function.

Pressing START/OFF initiates a reset that runs a dedicated Drain task and then attempts to resume the interrupted cycle. This can clear the error if the condition was temporary, such as a brief partial clog that cleared on its own. However, if the root cause such as a kinked hose, blocked filter, or failing pump is not addressed, the error will return when the drain phase runs again.
