The SE code on a GE washer means the load size sensor is unable to detect the size of the laundry load. This sensing process relies on the motor, clutch, and drive belt working together so the control board can calculate the load. The error appears when something in that mechanical or electrical chain fails to provide a usable signal.

It is not recommended to continue running the washer while the SE code is active. The washer cannot properly size the load, which means water fill levels and cycle timing may not function correctly. Continuing to run the machine with a faulty drivetrain or electrical connection could cause additional wear or damage to other components.

Resetting the washer may temporarily clear the SE code, but the fault will return if the underlying mechanical or electrical problem is not corrected.
