GE Washer Error Code Slow Pump

The Slow Pump error means the washer's pressure switch or pressure sensor did not close or reach its required reading within approximately 5 minutes during a drain cycle. The control board monitors drainage progress through this sensor and shuts the machine down completely, with no panel lights, when the timeout is reached. The root cause can be a clogged pump, a weak pump motor, a blocked drain hose, or a faulty pressure switch or sensor.

You should not continue running the washer until the cause is identified and corrected. When the error occurs, the control board shuts the machine down with water potentially still in the tub, which can lead to mold growth or water damage if left unaddressed. Resolve the drainage problem before resuming normal use.

Repair costs depend on which component has failed. If the issue is only a clogged pump filter or a simple hose obstruction, the repair may cost little to nothing beyond your time. Replacing a pressure switch typically runs in the range of $20 to $80 for the part, while a new drain pump motor can cost between $40 and $150 or more depending on the model. Adding professional labor generally brings total repair costs into the $100 to $300 range.

Some causes of the Slow Pump error are DIY-friendly. Clearing a clogged pump filter or straightening a kinked drain hose requires no special tools and is a reasonable first step. Testing the pressure switch or sensor and replacing a failed drain pump motor are more involved repairs that require a multimeter and basic appliance disassembly skills. If you are not comfortable working around electrical components, a technician is the safer choice.

A reset may clear the error code temporarily, but if the underlying problem with the drain pump or pressure switch is not corrected, the fault will return during the next drain cycle. The Slow Pump code is stored in Service Mode and will reappear whenever the same drainage timeout condition occurs. Proper repair of the root cause is required to permanently clear the fault.
