GE Washer Error Code UE

The UE code means the washer detected an out-of-balance load during the final spin and was unable to recover on its own. The machine attempted to correct the imbalance automatically and added 34 minutes to the cycle timer in the process. When those attempts failed, the control system displayed the UE code to alert you that manual intervention is needed.

A reset can clear the displayed error code, but it will not resolve the underlying cause. If the load is still unevenly distributed when the spin cycle restarts, the UE code will return. Address the load balance or any mechanical issues first, then restart the cycle for a lasting fix.

If the problem is load-related or a leveling issue, there is no parts cost involved. Replacement suspension rods or shock absorbers typically range from $15 to $60 for the parts, depending on the model, with additional labor costs if a technician is needed. A tub bearing replacement is more involved and can range from $100 to $300 or more in parts and labor, depending on the extent of the repair and local service rates.

Start by opening the door or lid and manually redistributing the wet laundry so weight is spread evenly around the drum. Remove any single bulky items and add a similar-sized item to balance them, or wash them separately. After rearranging the load, close the door and restart the spin cycle. If the error returns consistently with normal loads, check that the machine is level and inspect the suspension components for wear.

The washer will not complete the spin cycle while in a UE error state, so laundry will remain wet until you intervene. Running the machine repeatedly with an unbalanced load can accelerate wear on the suspension components, drum bearings, and cabinet over time. It is safe to open the machine and redistribute the load, but do not force the spin cycle to run with an obviously uneven load distribution.
