What Err12 means on a Haier washer
Err12 on a Haier washer indicates a loss of communication between the power board (also called the main control board) and the user interface board (the control panel board). These two boards continuously exchange data signals during operation to coordinate wash cycles, motor control, display output, and user input. When that communication link is interrupted or fails to respond within an expected timeframe, the washer halts operation and displays Err12 to prevent uncontrolled behavior.
The communication between these boards typically runs through a wiring harness with multi-pin connectors at each end. The most common trigger for Err12 is a loose, corroded, or damaged connector at either the power board or the user interface board. Vibration during spin cycles can gradually loosen these connections over time. Beyond connectors, a damaged wire in the harness, caused by pinching or chafing against the cabinet, can break the signal path entirely.
If the wiring and connectors check out as intact and secure, either the power board or the user interface board itself may have failed internally. Component failures on either board can prevent proper signal transmission. Diagnosing which board has failed typically requires substitution testing or reading voltage at the connector pins. Start the diagnostic process by cutting power to the machine completely before inspecting connectors, as recommended in the first diagnostic step.

Common causes of Err12
- 01
Loose or disconnected wiring connector
Wiring / connectionThe harness connectors between the power board and user interface board can work loose over time due to vibration. Inspect both connector ends for secure seating and push them firmly into place before anything else.
- 02
Corroded or damaged connector pins
Part replacementMoisture inside the cabinet can corrode the metal pins inside the connectors, increasing resistance and degrading the communication signal. Look for discoloration, oxidation, or bent pins at each connector.
- 03
Damaged wiring harness
Part replacementThe wire harness running between the two boards may be pinched, chafed, or broken, particularly where it routes around cabinet edges or moving parts. A visual inspection along the full length of the harness can reveal cuts or wear points.
- 04
Failed user interface board
Part replacementIf the control panel board has an internal failure, it will stop sending or receiving communication signals and trigger Err12. This is suspected when connectors and wiring check out as intact.
- 05
Failed power board
Part replacementA fault on the main power board can also break the communication link. If replacing or testing the user interface board does not resolve the error, the power board should be evaluated as the source of the fault.
