Error code 74 on a Kenmore induction range indicates an internal generator communication error originating in the Induction Housing Assembly on the right side of the unit. Specifically, the control system has detected a failure in the communication signal between the Large Filter Circuit Board and the Right Side Generator Circuit Board. Induction ranges rely on generator circuit boards to produce the high-frequency alternating current that energizes the induction coils beneath each cooking zone. When the control system cannot establish or maintain a valid communication link with the right side generator, it throws this fault code and disables the affected cooking zones as a protective measure.

The communication pathway at the center of this fault runs through the cable connecting the Large Filter Circuit Board at connector X13 and the Right Side Generator Circuit Board at connector X10. This cable carries both control signals and status feedback between the two boards. If the cable is loose, damaged, or has a corroded or bent pin at either connector, the communication link will fail and trigger error 74. In some cases, the fault may also stem from a failure internal to one of the two circuit boards rather than the interconnecting cable.

Diagnosing this error requires physically inspecting the X13-to-X10 cable for visible damage, verifying that both connectors are fully seated, and checking each pin for corrosion or deformation. If the cable and connectors check out cleanly, the next step is to evaluate whether the Large Filter Circuit Board or the Right Side Generator Circuit Board itself has failed and requires replacement.
