The lid switch is a safety feature that prevents the spin cycle from running with an open lid. If the LS code indicates a failed lid switch, the washer may not be able to confirm the lid is secure before spinning, which presents a safety risk. With the washer unplugged, you can use a multimeter set to continuity or resistance mode to test the lid switch.
