SR stands for stuck relay failure. It means the relay inside the machine controller that controls power to the motor controller has failed in the closed position, leaving the motor circuit energized when it should be off. The machine controller can no longer cut power to the motor controller as intended. This is a hardware fault on the control board, not a sensor or communication error.

It is not recommended to continue using the washer with an active SR fault. Because the relay is stuck closed, the motor controller is not receiving proper power interruption signals, which means the motor may remain energized at unintended times. This could lead to further damage to the motor controller or motor, and poses a potential safety concern.

Repair costs vary depending on the specific model and whether you hire a technician or do it yourself. A replacement machine control board typically ranges from around $100 to $300 or more for parts alone. Professional labor adds to that cost, generally bringing total repair estimates to somewhere between $150 and $450. You can press STOP/CANCEL to clear the SR code from the display temporarily, but this does not fix the underlying problem. Start by checking for AC line voltage at pins 1 and 5 of connector P16 on the machine controller and at pins 1 and 2 of connector P1 on the motor controller. If voltage is present when the washer should be off, the machine controller relay is confirmed as stuck closed. In most cases, the machine control board will need to be replaced. Also inspect the wiring harness between the two controllers for damage before ordering parts.
