Error code 26 means the control board detected a failure in Rotary Switch 2, the second switch position to the left of the encoder, during the startup self-check. The board could not confirm a valid signal from this switch position before the cycle began. The fault points to the rotary switch itself, the wiring connecting it to the control board, or in less common cases, the control board.

Code 26 is detected at startup and in most cases will prevent the dryer from running a normal cycle. If the dryer has locked out completely, there is no immediate safety risk from leaving it unplugged and idle, but do not attempt to bypass the fault and force operation. A failed switch can indicate a broader control panel problem that should be diagnosed before continued use.

If the fix is a loose wire connection, there is no parts cost and it is a DIY repair accessible to most homeowners with basic tools. A replacement user interface or rotary switch assembly typically ranges from $40 to $120 in parts depending on the model. A main control board costs $80 to $200 or more.
