Maytag Range Error Code DOOR

The DOOR error code on a Maytag range indicates that the control board energized the door lock relay but did not receive confirmation from the lock status switch within 20 seconds. This is a self-check failure within the door locking system, which is critical to safe self-clean cycle operation. The control expects to see a closed circuit signal from the door latch switch assembly once the lock motor drives the latch bolt into the locked position. If that signal is absent or delayed beyond the 20-second window, the control halts the operation and displays DOOR.

The door latch assembly contains both the lock motor and one or more switches that report latch position back to the control board. When the relay fires, the motor drives a cam or lever mechanism to engage the door hook. The switches are actuated mechanically at the end of travel. If a switch is out of adjustment, worn, or has failed open, the control never sees the confirmation signal even if the motor runs and the latch physically moves.

Wiring issues between the door latch switch assembly and the control board can also produce this fault, including broken wires, loose connectors, or corrosion on the switch terminals. Less commonly, the door lock motor itself may be drawing power but not completing its full travel due to mechanical obstruction or motor failure, which means the switch is never physically actuated. Verifying latch switch operation is the correct first diagnostic step, as switch failure is the most frequent root cause.
