Samsung Dishwasher Error Code 4E (High temp water)

The 4E error code means the dishwasher detected incoming water at 80°C or above during the fill cycle. The machine stops filling to prevent internal damage from excessively hot water. The fault involves the thermistor temperature sensor and the main control board. It can result from either a genuinely high water supply temperature or a faulty sensor giving an incorrect reading.

You should not attempt to bypass or ignore the 4E error and run the dishwasher. Water at 80°C or above can warp plastic components, damage seals, and compromise the wash system. The dishwasher is designed to halt operation at this threshold specifically to prevent that damage. Resolve the underlying cause before resuming normal use.

If the issue is simply a water heater set too high, there is no parts cost involved. Thermistor replacement is generally the least expensive repair, with parts typically ranging from $15 to $50 and labor adding more if a technician is needed. Main PBA replacement is the most costly possibility, with parts alone often ranging from $100 to $250 or more depending on the model. Getting the water supply temperature checked first can help avoid unnecessary part replacements.

Start by checking the temperature of the hot water supply at the tap closest to the dishwasher. If the water is extremely hot, lower the water heater setting and allow the supply to cool before running the dishwasher again. If the supply temperature is normal, the thermistor should be tested and replaced if found to be defective. If replacing the thermistor does not resolve the error, the main PBA may need to be inspected or replaced.

A reset may temporarily clear the displayed code, but the 4E error will return as soon as the dishwasher attempts to fill again if the underlying problem is not resolved. If the water supply temperature is genuinely too high or the thermistor is faulty, no reset will provide a lasting fix. Address the root cause first, then reset the appliance.
