The 5E code means the dishwasher was unable to drain water from the tub during a cycle. The control board detected that the drain process did not complete within the expected time. Possible causes include a clogged drain hose, a blocked pump, a faulty low level sensor, or a relay failure on the control board. You will often see standing water in the bottom of the tub when this error is active.

You should not run the dishwasher while the 5E code is active. Water that cannot drain will sit in the tub, and running additional cycles will add more water that also cannot exit. This can lead to leaks or overflow. Resolve the drain issue before resuming normal use.

Repair costs vary depending on the cause. Clearing a clogged drain hose or filter costs nothing beyond your time. Replacing a drain pump typically runs between $80 and $200 in parts and labor.
