E4 on a Samsung dishwasher is a low water level error. It activates when the high level sensor does not detect water after the fill cycle finishes, or when the low level sensor stays active for more than 30 seconds during washing. The dishwasher stops the cycle to protect the pump from running without sufficient water. Diagnosis starts with inspecting the water level sensor and its wiring connector.

You should not run the dishwasher while the E4 error is active. The code indicates the control board has detected insufficient water in the tub, and continuing to operate the wash pump without adequate water can cause the pump motor to overheat and fail. Resolve the underlying cause before running another cycle.
