The fE code means the dishwasher's fan motor measured less than 100 RPM during operation. The control board retried the fan motor three times before triggering this fault. It points to a problem in the fan motor circuit, the motor itself, or the wiring connecting them to the control board.

The dishwasher's wash and rinse functions may still operate with this fault present, but the drying cycle will not perform correctly. Running the unit repeatedly with a failed fan motor is not recommended, as it may mask further electrical issues. It is best to diagnose and repair the fault before continuing regular use.

If the fix is simply reseating a connector or removing an obstruction, there may be no parts cost at all. Fan motor replacement typically runs in the range of $50 to $150 for the part, plus labor if a technician is hired. Control board replacement is more expensive, generally ranging from $100 to $300 or more for the part depending on the model.

Some causes of the fE error are DIY-friendly, such as reseating a loose wire connector or clearing a physical obstruction from the fan blades. If the fan motor itself has failed, replacing it requires basic disassembly skills and the correct replacement part. Control board replacement is more complex and is generally better handled by a qualified technician.

A power reset may temporarily clear the fE code, but it will return as soon as the dishwasher attempts to run the fan motor and detects the low RPM condition again. The underlying cause must be repaired for the code to stay clear. To reset, disconnect power to the unit for a few minutes and then restore it.
