E130 indicates a fault with the COND MID temperature sensor on the outdoor unit heat exchanger. The system has detected that the sensor circuit is either open or short-circuited, meaning the signal is outside the normal thermistor range. The heat pump typically stops operation when this error is active to prevent running without accurate condenser temperature data.

In most cases the system will not operate normally while E130 is active, which is a built-in protection measure. Attempting to override or reset the unit repeatedly without resolving the underlying sensor fault is not recommended, as the control system relies on the COND MID reading to prevent overheating or inefficient operation of the refrigerant circuit.

A power reset may temporarily clear the error code display, but if the underlying sensor fault, such as a failed thermistor or damaged wire, still exists, the E130 code will return once the system attempts to read the sensor again. A reset is useful for confirming whether a loose connector was the cause after reseating it, but it is not a fix on its own.

If you are comfortable working around electrical components, you can start by checking whether the COND MID sensor connector on the outdoor unit PCB is loose or disconnected and reseating it firmly. If the connector is secure and the error persists, measuring the thermistor resistance and inspecting the wiring harness for damage will require basic electrical knowledge and a multimeter. Full sensor replacement and PCB diagnosis are best handled by a qualified technician.

Repair costs vary depending on the root cause. If only the connector needs reseating, a service call fee may be the primary expense, typically ranging from $75 to $150. Replacing the COND MID thermistor sensor, including parts and labor, generally falls in the $100 to $300 range. If the outdoor unit PCB is also damaged, costs can increase significantly.
