E132 indicates an open or short circuit fault on the discharge temperature sensor for constant speed compressor 1 in the outdoor unit. The control board cannot read a valid signal from this thermistor, which monitors refrigerant gas temperature leaving the compressor. The system triggers this code to protect the compressor from operating without proper temperature oversight.

Running the heat pump with an active E132 fault is not recommended. The discharge temperature sensor is a key safety input, and operating the compressor without valid temperature data risks overheating, compressor valve damage, or lubrication breakdown. The system may shut down automatically, but you should not attempt to override the fault and continue running the unit.

A power reset may temporarily clear the E132 code, but if the underlying fault, such as a failed thermistor, damaged wiring, or a corroded connector, is still present, the error will return quickly. Clearing the code without repairing the root cause will not restore safe operation. A reset is only a useful step if you have already corrected the problem and want to confirm the fault does not reappear.

A homeowner can safely start by checking whether the sensor connector at the outdoor unit PCB has come loose and reconnecting it if so. Beyond that step, accurate diagnosis requires a multimeter to measure thermistor resistance, and any refrigerant-side work requires a certified technician. If the sensor or wiring needs replacement, a qualified HVAC technician should perform the repair.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, there is no parts cost and a service call fee is the only expense, typically in the range of $75 to $150.
