Samsung Heat Pump Error Code E185

E185 is a compressor low current error. It means the CT sensor, which monitors how much electrical current the compressor is drawing, has reported a value below 4 amperes for more than 10 consecutive minutes. This points to either a problem with the CT sensor itself or an actual issue with the compressor not operating at normal load.

Continuing to run the system with an active E185 error is not recommended. If the compressor is genuinely drawing low current due to a mechanical or electrical fault, operating it further can cause additional damage. If the fault is only in the sensor, the system may not be providing proper heating or cooling regardless. The unit should be inspected before continued use.

A power reset may temporarily clear the E185 code, but it will return if the underlying problem is not resolved. Because this fault requires the low-current condition to persist for over 10 minutes before triggering, a reset followed by normal operation could temporarily mask a developing fault. The root cause should be diagnosed and corrected rather than relying on resets as a solution.

A knowledgeable DIYer can inspect the CT sensor connector for visible damage, corrosion, or loose connections, which is the recommended first diagnostic step. However, testing resistance values, checking refrigerant pressures, and diagnosing compressor health require specialized tools and, in the case of refrigerants, proper certification.
