Samsung Heat Pump Error Code E462

E462 indicates that the outdoor unit fan motor's actual rotational speed differs from the speed commanded by the control board by more than 100 RPM. The system detects this discrepancy through a feedback signal from the motor and flags the fault to prevent compressor and heat exchanger damage. The unit will typically stop operating until the fault is cleared and the fan speed is confirmed stable.

It is not advisable to continue running the system with this fault active. An outdoor fan not meeting its target speed can cause the refrigerant circuit to operate outside safe pressure ranges, which puts the compressor at risk of overheating or damage. Samsung's control system will typically shut the unit down automatically, but repeatedly resetting and running the unit without addressing the root cause can lead to more costly secondary failures.

Repair costs depend on the root cause. Clearing a physical obstruction or reseating a connector may involve only a service call fee, typically in the range of $75 to $150. Replacing the outdoor fan motor generally costs between $200 and $500 including parts and labor, while a control board replacement can range from $400 to $800 or more depending on the model. A power reset may temporarily clear the fault code, but E462 will return if the underlying cause is not corrected. If the fan motor is obstructed, failing, or if a wiring connection is intermittent, the RPM deviation will reoccur and trigger the error again. A reset is useful as a first step to confirm whether the fault is persistent, but it is not a repair.
