The sensor is a thermistor mounted at the refrigerant inlet side of the evaporator coil and must maintain direct contact with the coil surface to function correctly.

E469 is not an immediate safety hazard, but operating the unit with a dislodged EVAP IN sensor can lead to improper system control. Without accurate evaporator inlet temperature data, the system may not manage defrost cycles or compressor output correctly, which could result in reduced efficiency or potential component stress over time. It is best to address the fault promptly rather than continuing to operate the unit while the error is active.

If the repair only requires reseating the displaced sensor, a service call to diagnose and correct the issue typically ranges from around $75 to $150 depending on the technician and region. If the sensor retaining clip or the thermistor itself needs replacement, parts costs are generally modest, with total repair costs often falling in the $100 to $250 range.
