The 21F error code on a Samsung refrigerator indicates a freezer fan motor fault. It can be triggered by a feedback signal line contact error, a separated motor wire harness, or a motor failure during operation. The freezer fan is critical for circulating cold air, so this error can cause the freezer temperature to rise if not addressed. Diagnosis starts with measuring voltage at Main PCB connector CN74, pins 4 to 1, which should read between 7V and 12V.

Continuing to run the refrigerator with an active 21F error is not recommended. Without a functioning freezer fan, cold air cannot circulate properly, meaning freezer and fresh food temperatures will rise and food safety is at risk. Extended operation in this condition can also place additional strain on the compressor. Address the fault as soon as possible to avoid food spoilage and further damage.

A power reset, performed by unplugging the refrigerator for a few minutes and plugging it back in, may temporarily clear the 21F error code from the display. However, if the underlying cause such as a faulty fan motor, damaged wiring, or incorrect PCB voltage output is still present, the error will return once the board detects the fault again during operation. A reset is useful for confirming whether the fault is intermittent, but it is not a substitute for diagnosing and repairing the actual problem.

Some causes of the 21F error are DIY-friendly. Checking the wiring harness connection at the main PCB connector CN74 for loose or corroded pins, and manually defrosting the freezer to clear any ice blocking the fan blade, are reasonable first steps. If those checks don't resolve the issue, testing the fan motor and measuring voltages at the PCB require a multimeter and some comfort working with appliance electronics. Motor replacement is a moderate-difficulty repair, while PCB replacement is best handled by a qualified technician.

Repair costs depend on the root cause. If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector or defrosting an ice-blocked fan, there may be no parts cost at all.
