Diagnosis begins with a resistance check at the Main PCB connectors CN70 and CN85, with an expected reading of 63 ohms (120V) or 230 ohms (240V) plus or minus 7%.

A shorted defrost heater carries a risk of overheating internal components if the safety fuse has also failed, so the refrigerator should not be left unattended if 26Er is active and the unit is behaving abnormally.
