E24 indicates a freezer defrost circuit error. The refrigerator's control board has detected a problem with the defrost heater, thermistor, or related wiring in the freezer section. The fault can be caused by a slipped connector, a cut or shorted wire, a failed thermistor, or the defrost cycle running longer than 80 minutes without completing.

A reset may temporarily clear the code from the display, but E24 will return if the underlying defrost circuit fault is not repaired. Because the code reflects a real electrical problem such as a short, open circuit, or failed component, resetting without diagnosis and repair will not restore normal defrost operation.

Repair costs vary depending on which component has failed. A replacement defrost thermistor is typically an affordable part, often in the range of $15 to $40 for the component alone. A defrost heater assembly generally costs more, often between $40 and $120 for the part. Begin by disconnecting connector CN70 on the main PCB and measuring resistance between the Orange and Brown wire terminals using a multimeter. Check the connector itself for looseness or corrosion before testing, since a slipped connector is a common and simple fix.

Continued use with an active E24 error is not recommended. Without a functioning defrost cycle, frost will accumulate on the evaporator coils and eventually block airflow, causing the freezer and fresh food sections to lose cooling ability. A shorted heater also presents a potential electrical hazard that should be addressed promptly.
