E25 signals a fridge compartment defrost error. It is triggered when the defrost system fails to complete its cycle within 80 minutes, or when the control board detects a fault in the defrost circuit such as a shorted heater, open thermistor, cut wire, or disconnected connector. The error points specifically to the circuit connected at main PCB connector CN70.

A shorted heater identified by the 0 ohm resistance reading is a more urgent concern, as a short circuit can damage the main PCB or pose a fire risk if left unaddressed. An open circuit fault is less immediately dangerous but will prevent the refrigerator from defrosting, leading to frost buildup and eventual cooling failure. It is best to stop using the refrigerator until the fault is diagnosed and repaired.

Repair costs vary depending on the failed component. If only a connector needs reseating, there may be no parts cost at all, though a service call typically runs between $75 and $150. Replacing a defrost thermistor generally costs between $20 and $60 for the part, while a defrost heater replacement can range from $30 to $100 for the part. Start by disconnecting CN70 on the main PCB and measuring resistance between the Orange and White wire terminals. A reading of 0 ohms means the defrost heater is shorted and needs replacement. Reseating a loose connector may clear the code without any parts replacement if the connector was simply out of position.

A reset may temporarily clear the E25 code from the display, but the error will return once the refrigerator attempts another defrost cycle if the underlying fault is still present. Resetting without repairing the root cause can also allow frost to continue accumulating unchecked. A proper component-level diagnosis and repair is needed to permanently resolve the code.
