Er indicates a CoolSelect Zone sensor error on Samsung LCD-model refrigerators. The control board has detected that the sensor circuit is open, short-circuited, has a disconnected connector, or is reporting a temperature reading above +50°C or below -50°C. This error is specific to models that include the CoolSelect Zone compartment with an LCD display panel.

A reset by unplugging the refrigerator for a few minutes may temporarily clear the display, but the Er code will return if the underlying fault in the sensor circuit has not been corrected. The error is triggered by a real electrical condition, so a reset alone is not a fix. The wiring, connector, and sensor must be inspected and repaired or replaced as needed.

Repair costs depend on the cause. If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, there is no parts cost and minimal labor. A replacement CoolSelect Zone thermistor sensor typically costs in the range of $15 to $50 for the part. The CoolSelect Zone will not be able to maintain accurate temperature control while the Er error is active, since the sensor is not providing valid data. Food stored in the CoolSelect Zone compartment may not be held at the intended temperature. The rest of the refrigerator may continue to operate, but you should resolve the error promptly to avoid food safety concerns in that compartment.
