Samsung Refrigerator Error Code F-1 (Ambient-Sensor)

The F-1 code indicates a fault in the external ambient temperature sensor circuit. The error is triggered by a sensor housing separation, a wiring disconnection or short circuit, a connector contact problem at CN32 on the main PCB, or a temperature reading outside the valid range of -58°F to 149°F. The refrigerator cannot reliably use ambient temperature data when this code is active.

The F-1 error is not a safety emergency, but it does mean the refrigerator is operating without accurate ambient temperature data. This can affect how efficiently the compressor and fans are controlled. Food preservation may be impacted over time, so the issue should be addressed promptly rather than ignored.

Repair costs depend on the failed component. An ambient temperature sensor typically costs between $10 and $40 for the part. A replacement wiring harness or connector repair will vary based on the extent of damage. If the main PCB is at fault, the part alone can range from $80 to $250 or more, with additional labor costs if a technician is hired.

Start by checking that connector CN32 on the main PCB is fully seated. Then measure the resistance across CN32 pins 1 and 4 to evaluate sensor condition. If the connector is secure and resistance is abnormal (near zero or infinite), inspect the wiring harness for damage and then replace the ambient sensor if the harness is intact. If all components test good, the main PCB may need to be replaced.

A power reset may temporarily clear the F-1 code, but the error will return if the underlying sensor fault is still present. A reset does not repair a broken wire, a failed sensor, or a loose connector. The code should only clear permanently once the root cause has been diagnosed and corrected.
