The F-1 (C FAN) code means the refrigerator's main control board has detected a problem with the condenser fan motor in the machine room. The fault can be caused by a contact error on the feedback signal line, separated motor wiring, or a failed motor. The condenser fan is critical for heat dissipation, so this error should be addressed promptly to prevent cooling performance issues.

A reset may temporarily clear the error code, but it will return if the underlying problem is not corrected. The main PCB continuously monitors the fan motor feedback signal during operation, so any wiring, connector, or motor fault will trigger the code again. A reset is useful for confirming whether the issue is intermittent, but it is not a fix.

Repair costs vary depending on the root cause. A replacement condenser fan motor typically ranges from $30 to $80 in parts, with labor adding $80 to $150 if a technician is involved. A wiring harness repair or connector replacement is generally on the lower end of the cost range. Some causes of this error are DIY-friendly. Start by unplugging the refrigerator and inspecting the condenser fan wiring harness and connectors for loose connections, broken wires, or corrosion. Operating the refrigerator with a non-functioning condenser fan is not recommended for extended periods.
