The fault is tracked through main PCB connectors CN30 and CN75, and diagnosing it starts with checking those connections and measuring resistance at CN30 pin 4 and CN75 pin 1.

The F-1 error is not an immediate safety hazard, but it does mean the defrost system may not be functioning correctly. Without proper defrost cycles, ice can accumulate on the evaporator coils, which will eventually restrict airflow and cause the freezer and refrigerator sections to warm up. Food safety can become a concern if the issue is left unaddressed for an extended period.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, there may be no parts cost involved. Replacing a failed defrost sensor typically involves a parts cost in the range of $15 to $50, plus labor if a technician is doing the repair. If the main PCB is at fault, the cost rises considerably, generally falling in the range of $150 to $400 for parts and labor depending on the specific model and service provider.

Start by checking that connectors CN30 and CN75 on the main PCB are fully and correctly inserted. Measure resistance at CN30 pin 4 and CN75 pin 1 to evaluate the sensor circuit. If the connectors are secure and the resistance reading is out of range, the defrost sensor likely needs to be replaced. If the sensor and wiring check out, inspect the main PCB for damage.

A power reset may temporarily clear the error code, but it will return if the underlying fault is still present. Resetting is useful for ruling out a transient glitch, but a persistent F-1 code requires physical inspection and resistance testing of the defrost sensor circuit to identify and correct the root cause.
