Samsung Refrigerator Error Code F-1 (F-FAN)

The F-1 (F-FAN) code means the refrigerator's control board has detected a problem with the freezer compartment inner fan motor. The fault can be a wiring contact error on the feedback signal line, a separated motor wire, or a motor that has failed during operation. Because this fan circulates cold air through the freezer, the error should be addressed promptly to prevent temperature loss.

Running the refrigerator with an active F-1 code is not recommended for extended periods. Without a functioning freezer fan, cold air circulation stops and temperatures in both the freezer and fresh food sections can rise to unsafe levels for stored food. Address the fault as soon as possible to avoid food spoilage.

A reset may temporarily clear the F-1 code, but if the underlying fault with the fan motor, wiring, or connector is still present, the code will return once the refrigerator resumes normal operation. A reset is useful for confirming whether a fault is intermittent, but it is not a substitute for diagnosing and correcting the root cause.

Some causes of the F-1 error are DIY-friendly, such as reseating a loose connector at the main PCB, clearing ice buildup around the fan, or inspecting the wiring harness for visible breaks. However, measuring voltage at PCB connector CN75 requires a multimeter and basic electrical knowledge. Motor or board replacement requires more advanced skills and comfort working with refrigerator components.

If the issue is only a loose connector or minor wiring repair, costs may be minimal beyond a service call fee, typically in the range of $75 to $150. Replacing the freezer fan motor generally costs between $100 and $250 for parts and labor. A main PCB replacement, if needed, can range from $200 to $450 or more depending on the model.
