Running the refrigerator with an F-1 error active means the freezer fan may not be circulating air properly, which can lead to uneven temperatures and food spoilage in the freezer and fresh food sections. The appliance is generally not a fire or safety hazard in this state, but food safety is at risk if the freezer is not maintaining adequate temperature. It is best to address the fault promptly or transfer perishables until the repair is complete.

A power reset, such as unplugging the refrigerator for a few minutes and plugging it back in, may temporarily clear the F-1 code if the fault was caused by a momentary signal interruption or a fan that was briefly stalled by ice.
