The F-1 code on a Samsung refrigerator indicates a fault in the freezer compartment inner fan motor circuit. It can be caused by a contact error in the feedback signal line, a separated motor wire, or a failed fan motor. The main PCB monitors a feedback signal from the motor to confirm it is operating, and the code appears when that signal is missing or invalid. Checking the supply voltage at PCB connector CN75 between the Yellow and Gray wires is the recommended first diagnostic step.

Continued use with an F-1 error active is not recommended. Without a functioning freezer fan, cold air circulation stops, which means food temperatures in both the freezer and fresh food sections will rise and food spoilage can occur. Address the fault as soon as possible to prevent food loss.

A power reset may temporarily clear the F-1 code, but if the underlying fault still exists, the code will return once the refrigerator restarts and the control board re-evaluates the fan motor circuit. A reset alone will not resolve a failed motor, broken wire, or defective PCB. The root cause must be diagnosed and corrected for the error to clear permanently.

Some causes of the F-1 error are DIY-friendly, such as reseating a loose wiring harness connector or clearing ice buildup around the freezer fan blade. If the supply voltage at CN75 reads between 7V and 12V and the motor still does not run, the fan motor itself will need to be replaced, which is a moderate-difficulty repair. Main PCB replacement is more complex and may warrant professional service.

If only a wiring connector needs to be reseated, there may be no parts cost at all. Replacing a freezer inner fan motor typically costs between $30 and $100 for the part, plus labor if a technician is hired. A main PCB replacement is more expensive, generally ranging from $100 to $300 or more for the board alone.
