The Fridge MID error indicates a problem with the mid-section temperature sensor in the fresh food compartment. The control board has detected a wiring fault, short circuit, contact failure, missing sensor, or a temperature reading outside the valid range of -58°F/-50°C to 149°F/65°C. The first step in diagnosing it is checking for 4.7V to 0.6V between pins 8 and 9 of connector CN30 on the main PCB.

A power reset may temporarily clear the error code from the display, but if the underlying fault such as a failed sensor, cut wire, or short circuit is still present, the code will return. The error reflects a real hardware condition that needs to be diagnosed and repaired, not just reset.

Costs vary depending on the root cause. A replacement MID thermistor sensor is generally an inexpensive part, typically in the range of $10 to $40. A service call plus labor can add $100 to $200 or more depending on your location. If the main PCB is the cause, part costs alone can range from $150 to $350, making total repair costs significantly higher.

Some causes are DIY-friendly. Checking the sensor connector for looseness, inspecting the wiring harness for obvious damage, and reseating a dislodged sensor probe do not require special tools. However, testing specific voltage at the main PCB connector and replacing the PCB itself are tasks better suited to a technician with a multimeter and appliance repair experience.

The refrigerator may continue to run, but without accurate mid-compartment temperature feedback, the control board cannot regulate cooling correctly. Food safety could be at risk if temperatures drift outside safe zones without triggering proper cooling cycles. It is best to address the fault promptly and monitor food temperatures in the meantime.
