This error means the main control board has detected a fault in the ice duct heater circuit. The ice duct heater prevents ice from clumping or jamming inside the dispenser chute. The fault can be caused by a wiring disconnection, a shorted or open heater element, a failed bimetal safety cutout, or a loose connector at the PCB. Resistance testing at the CN70 connector is the first step to pinpointing the exact cause.

A shorted heater element (0-ohm reading) carries a greater concern than an open circuit because a short can cause the heater to run continuously or draw excessive current. An open circuit simply means the heater is not functioning, which will not cause a fire hazard but may lead to ice clumping in the dispenser chute. It is best to have a shorted heater addressed promptly to avoid any electrical stress on related components.

A power reset may temporarily clear the error from the display, but the code will return if the underlying electrical fault in the heater circuit has not been corrected. Resetting the refrigerator does not repair a broken wire, a failed heater element, or a tripped bimetal cutout. The resistance values at the CN70 connector must fall within the acceptable range, 63 ohms plus or minus 7 percent for a 230V unit, before the error will clear permanently.

Some causes, such as a loose or disconnected CN70 connector, can be addressed by a confident DIYer who is comfortable working inside a refrigerator. However, proper diagnosis requires a multimeter to check resistance at the CN70 connector and the ability to safely access internal wiring. If the heater element, bimetal cutout, or wiring harness needs replacement, comfort with appliance disassembly is necessary. If you are unsure, a qualified appliance technician is the safer choice.

Repair costs depend on the failed component. If only a connector or wire needs attention, costs are relatively low, typically in the range of a service call fee plus minimal parts.
