Samsung Refrigerator Error Code Ice Pipe Heater Error (Ice Bites)

This error means the refrigerator's control board has detected a fault in the pipe heater circuit for the Ice Bites ice dispensing system. The heater is a small resistive component that prevents ice from clumping or jamming inside the delivery path. The fault can be caused by a broken wire, a bad connection at the CN20 connector, a failed heater element, or a short circuit. The board flags the error when the circuit reads outside normal parameters.

A reset may temporarily clear the error code from the display, but it will return if the underlying fault in the pipe heater circuit is not repaired. The control board actively monitors the heater circuit, so any open circuit or out-of-range resistance condition will retrigger the error. A reset is useful for confirming whether the fault is intermittent but is not a fix for a failed heater or broken wire.

Repair costs vary depending on the failed component. If only the wire harness or connector needs attention, costs may be minimal, primarily covering labor if a technician is involved. Replacing the pipe heater element itself typically costs between $30 and $80 for the part, plus labor if applicable. If the Main PCB is at fault, board replacement can range from $100 to $300 or more depending on the model.

Start by disconnecting the CN20 wire harness from the Main PCB and measuring resistance between pins 21 and 23. The correct reading is 24 ohms, plus or minus 7%. If the reading is out of range or shows an open circuit, the heater element or its wiring needs to be replaced. If resistance is within spec, inspect the CN20 connector pins for corrosion or poor contact and reseat the connector before suspecting the PCB.

The refrigerator's cooling and food preservation functions are generally not affected by this error, as it is isolated to the ice delivery system. However, ice dispensing may work improperly or ice may jam in the chute without the pipe heater functioning. It is safe to continue using the refrigerator for cooling, but the ice maker system should be repaired before relying on it.
