Samsung Refrigerator Error Code Med

The Med error code indicates a fault in the freezer room sensor (F-Sensor) circuit. The main control board has detected that the sensor is missing, has a poor connection, a broken wire, a short circuit, or is reporting a temperature at or above 65 degrees Celsius or at or below -50 degrees Celsius. The code is the refrigerator's way of signaling that it cannot trust the freezer temperature reading.

The Med error specifically affects the freezer sensor, which means the refrigerator may not regulate freezer temperatures accurately while the fault is present. If the freezer is not maintaining a safe temperature below 0 degrees Fahrenheit (approximately -18 degrees Celsius), frozen food can begin to thaw. Check the actual freezer temperature and transfer food to another freezer if the compartment is warming up.

A power reset by unplugging the refrigerator for a few minutes may temporarily clear the Med code from the display, but the error will return if the underlying sensor circuit fault has not been repaired. The code is triggered by an active electrical condition detected by the PCB, so clearing it without fixing the root cause does not restore proper freezer temperature monitoring.

Some causes of the Med error are DIY-accessible, such as reseating a loose sensor connector or visually inspecting the wiring harness for obvious damage. More involved repairs like replacing the thermistor or repairing a damaged harness require basic electrical knowledge and a multimeter. Testing the voltage at CN30 pins 6 and 3 on the main PCB is the recommended starting point to determine how far the fault extends.

If the repair only requires reseating a connector, there is no parts cost. Replacing a faulty freezer thermistor typically costs in the range of $20 to $60 for the part, plus labor if a technician is hired. If the main PCB needs replacement, costs rise significantly, generally falling in the range of $150 to $400 or more depending on the model and labor rates in your area.
