On a Samsung refrigerator, the Power Freeze error indicates a fault in the freezer compartment defrost heater circuit. The control board has detected an issue such as a broken wire, blown thermal fuse, failed heater element, poor connector contact, or a missing heater housing. The defrost system is responsible for automatically melting frost off the evaporator coils, and this error means that system is not functioning correctly.

A reset may temporarily clear the error code from the display, but it will not fix the underlying fault in the defrost heater circuit. If the root cause, such as a blown thermal fuse, failed heater element, or damaged wire, is not repaired, the error will return. Repeated defrost failures without repair will lead to frost accumulation on the evaporator and eventual loss of cooling performance.

Repair costs depend on which component has failed. A replacement thermal fuse is generally an inexpensive part, and a DIY repair may cost between $10 and $40 in parts. A defrost heater element replacement typically ranges from $30 to $100 for parts. Start by disconnecting the CN70 connector from the main PCB and measuring resistance between pins No.5 and No.1 on the wire harness side using a multimeter. The reading should be 294 ohms within a 7 percent tolerance, roughly 273 to 315 ohms. If the reading is out of range or shows infinite resistance, inspect the thermal fuse, heater element, and wiring harness for damage or failure, and replace any faulty components. If the connector itself appears corroded or loose, cleaning or reseating it may resolve the issue without part replacement.

Continuing to run the refrigerator with an active defrost heater fault is not recommended for extended periods. Without a functioning defrost cycle, frost will progressively build up on the evaporator coils, restricting airflow and reducing cooling efficiency in both the freezer and fresh food sections. This can eventually lead to food spoilage. Address the fault as soon as possible to prevent further damage to the appliance.
