Samsung Refrigerator Error Code Power Freeze LED

When the Power Freeze LED is used as a fault indicator on a Samsung refrigerator, it signals an R-FAN error related to the refrigerator compartment fan motor. The control board has detected a restriction or failure in the fan motor circuit. This fan is responsible for distributing cold air throughout the fresh food section, and when it fails, the refrigerator cannot maintain proper temperature.

A power reset may temporarily clear the error display, but it will return if the underlying fan motor problem has not been fixed. Because the error is triggered by an active fault condition detected by the main PCB, the LED will illuminate again once the refrigerator runs through its diagnostic cycle. A permanent fix requires identifying and correcting the root cause of the fan restriction or motor failure.

Repair costs vary depending on the failed component. A replacement evaporator fan motor typically costs between $30 and $80 for the part, while a main PCB replacement can range from $100 to $250 or more depending on the model. Adding professional labor, total repair costs can range from $100 to $400 or higher. If the issue is only ice buildup or a loose wire, no parts may be needed and the repair cost could be minimal.

Start by checking the voltage at the main PCB connector CN31 between pins 10 and 9, which should read between 7V and 12V. If voltage is correct, inspect the fan motor and the area around it for ice buildup, obstructions, or a failed motor. If voltage is out of range, inspect the wiring harness and then the main PCB. Correcting the root cause, whether it is thawing ice, replacing the fan motor, or repairing wiring, will resolve the error.

Continuing to run the refrigerator with an active R-FAN error is not recommended. Without the evaporator fan circulating cold air, the fresh food compartment will not maintain safe temperatures, which puts food at risk of spoilage. Prolonged operation without proper airflow can also increase the workload on the compressor, potentially causing additional component wear.
